What is a Septic Tank?

A septic tank is a below-ground, watertight structure made of concrete, plastic, or fiberglass, typically measuring around 9 by 5 by 6 feet. Its primary function is to separate liquids and solids while facilitating the digestion of some organic matter through anaerobic bacteria, which thrive without oxygen. The tank partially filters and clarifies effluent, discharging it to the drainfield for final treatment.

Do I Need to Get My Septic Tank Pumped?

At Springtown Septic, recognizing the signs that your septic tank needs pumping is essential for maintaining a healthy system.

Look out for the following indicators:

  1. Slow Drains: If sinks, toilets, or showers are draining slowly, it may indicate a full tank.

  2. Unpleasant Odors: Foul smells around the drainfield or near the tank can signal a problem.

  3. Lush Grass: Unusually green or lush patches of grass over the septic area may suggest a leak or overflow.

  4. Backups: If you experience sewage backups in your home, it’s time to call for pumping.

  5. Puddles or Wet Spots: Standing water or wet spots around the drainfield can indicate that the tank is full.

If you notice any of these signs, contact Springtown Septic to ensure your septic system is functioning properly.

Understanding Septic Systems Did you know nearly a quarter of American homes utilize a septic tank system? These systems are prevalent in Texas, especially in areas where city sewer lines are not available. While some septic systems may have been abandoned or connected to municipal sewers, many homeowners prefer to maintain their septic systems for various reasons. In addition to septic tanks, your property may feature a leach field (or drain field) or an aerobic treatment system. Aerobic systems treat wastewater on-site, allowing reclaimed water to be used for irrigation or to be discharged away from the property. Leach fields distribute wastewater into the soil, following initial treatment in the septic tank. Both systems require regular pumping to keep them efficient and to prevent sludge buildup. At Springtown Septic Service, we specialize in residential septic pumping and maintenance. Trust our experienced professionals to ensure your septic system remains reliable and efficient for years to come.
